Reshma Pandit – The Princess of Tabla

Reshma PanditWhen words fail, music speaks. This is what Reshma Pandit, a young tabla player believes in. At the age of 26, she has pioneered in the field of instrumental music. She had an inclination towards music since childhood and belongs to a family of musicians. She is the fifth generation from her family in this field. At the age of 7, she started to learn tabla. Her father is a tabla player in All India Radio and mother is a Kathak dancer. She herself has learned Bharatnatyam and also learned sitaar for 2.5 years. She did her first performance at the age of 12 years in “Begani Smriti Music Festival” along with her father and grandfather and it was 3 generations performing at the same time.

Reshma is pursuing her Ph.D. in Cultural History. She has performed all around India. She has performed in many renowned platforms like ” Sangeet Natak Akademi in New Delhi”, ” Sangeet Kala Manch in Jalandhar”, ” Sirpur (Chhattisgarh) Festival”, ” Yuva khoj Music Festival in Bhopal” and many more. She has also been selected to perform in China by the ministry of youth affairs and sport, the government of India. She has also recently with Grammy and Padma Vibhushan awarded Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt in Shri Music Festival, Udaipur. She also performed in Spic Macay over 6 times.

Reshma PanditShe performed in “Dhai_Akhar” with Grammy Award winner Dr Prakash Sontakke. She has also done a duet performance with Chinese musicians. She also has a workshop in Canada in the month of September. She has also a list of awards in her kitty like ” Sangeet Natak Akademi Award”, ” Yuva khoj Awards”, “Chakradhar Awards”, “Association of All India Universities Competition winner Tirupati”, “Rajya Gaurav Mahila Samman”, “Recipient of national scholarships for music award by the government of India” to name a few. She also got a job offer from the Academy of Virginia but her love for her nation did not let her go. A true legend, her music shall continue to enthrall us for many more years to come.
