“Inner talent is everything you need to succeed in life. Hardwork along with it is the added advantage which makes an artist stand out”, and one such artist is Soumya Santosh. A South Indian girl with roots in Kerala, who mesmerizes everyone around with her moves and has more than you can even ask for. A Choreographer unique in her own kind.
Born and brought up in two cities of the state- Bhilai and Raipur, Soumya’s parents’ government jobs brought them here from there native place Kerala. Having done her higher education from Maharaja Agrasen International College, Raipur, she was fond of dancing from a very young age. Her craze for dancing was evident to everyone. and when zeal and passion meet, it’s always a fiery combination for everyone to experience. It was as early at the age of 6 when she started choreographying dance acts in her school. Television was her only teacher and her passion did the rest.
In 2009, it was Aashish Mishra, one of her teachers in school who motivated her to do something in the dance field as he could see the fire in her which no one did. After getting acknowledged on a regular basis by people for her dancing, Soumya’s parents started supporting her for the same. By this time Soumya was a known name in the school for her dancing prowess. Later in 2010, she went on choreographying and participating in an Indian Societal Dance competition held in Sydney, Australia along with a crew of 40 dancers. Winning a prize money of a whopping 1.4 million rupees in the competition, there was no looking back for her from thereon.
It was during the first year in her college when she got to know about Shiamak Davar, and her next aim was to get into Shiamak. But, all good things come at a hefty price. It was not easy to get into Shiamak as the procedure was a little too tough. She finally got selected via a Video audition for the same, and her dreams were to get wings in Mumbai; yes, they did. Currently trained in 24 different dance styles including Salsa, Hip-hop, Folk etc, Soumya has trained under experts like Owen Selkirk (Jazz and Contemporary maestro), Tushna Dallas (renowned Ballet trainer) and many other great dancers. She went on receiving the International certificate- ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) later on during her relationship with dance.
When more of her branches are explored, Soumya is also a Zumba trainer who has shared the same session with someone like Suchita Pal who is known to be an ambassador of Zumba in India. Also having shared the same stage with Dancers like Sonali Bhadauria and Melvin Louis in the YouTube Fanfest, Soumya has proved her mettle. She’s also trained in Kalari- an Indian martial art. Currently, she has stepped into the world of YouTube-ing with a channel called ‘The 7th Heel’ and also runs her own Dance Classes alongside it. With an India Tour Workshop in the foresight because of the constant demand by the dance community, Soumya aims at completing the tour before she moves to Los Angeles, USA, to train dancers there. It is scheduled somewhere near December, and for someone who has choreographed and trained almost 1000 students at a time, it won’t be a tough task to accomplish.
