Odisha faced rarest of the rare summer cyclone on 3rd May 2019. The coastal state was devastated by the severe cyclonic storm Fani. The state braced itself to face the storm with extreme precautions and preparations with the help of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force
(ODRAF) team. Over one lakh officials were on their peep toe for rescue and restoration work.
Fani crossed the Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, south of the pilgrim city – Puri, on Friday morning which resulted in a heavy downpour with a maximum sustained wind speed of 200 kmph. The state government with the help of the rescue team heroes evacuated over 11 lakh people from the low-lying area in 15 districts and among them was Odisha IPS Pinak Sharma of Berhampur. The officer went door to door with folded hands to request people to move to safer shelters before cyclone Fani strikes.
The officer was seen requesting people to cooperate and move to safer areas in a tweet by @odisha_police and in no time laudatory comments poured in as people applauded the officer for his dedication in safeguarding people and humility shown by him above all.
The pic of sir Pinak Sharma indeed fills us with commendable amount of satisfaction with a sincere effort to become worthy of such dedication.
As many as 25 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), along with State fire service personnel, have been deployed in the coastal districts. Defence forces were on high alert to tackle any eventualities.
We salute these heroes for their sincere efforts to safeguard the people of India.
