On World Tribal Day, a cultural evening of specially protected tribal groups’ traditional game Madai was organized today at the auditorium of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Raipur. Colorful cultural programs were presented in the auditorium from 5 pm onwards, especially by cultural groups from backward tribal groups. Tribal and Scheduled Caste Development Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam was the chief guest of the cultural program. The program was presided over by Parliamentary Secretary Dwarkadhish Yadav. On this occasion, Tribal Welfare Department Secretary D.D. Singh and Commissioner Shammi Abidi were especially present.

Minister Tekam boosted the enthusiasm of artists by playing Mandar

Minister Dr. Premsai Tekam encouraged the artists by playing Mandar (World Tribal Day) during the program. In his address, he gave detailed information about the efforts of the state government to encourage education, health, agriculture, skill development, livelihood, and cultural traditions of Scheduled Tribes. He said that in the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, more than 23 thousand 600 individual forest rights letters have been distributed by the state government to especially vulnerable tribal groups, whose area is more than 18500 hectares. Under Community Forest Rights, more than 1700 leases whose area is more than one lakh 14 thousand hectares.

More than 100 Community Forest Resource Forest Rights Certificates have been given to especially vulnerable tribal groups to provide means of livelihood. Action is being taken to appoint 9623 educated youths belonging to vulnerable tribal groups in government service as per their eligibility. For the protection and promotion of tribal culture, the government is sanctioning Rs.5 lakh each for the construction and renovation of Devgudis, the place of faith of the tribals.

Special efforts to preserve the Ghotul tradition

Along with this, special efforts are also being made to preserve the Ghotul tradition prevalent in the tribal community. In the last three and a half years, 22 crores 82 lakhs have been sanctioned for the construction and renovation of 1889 Devgudis. Year 2022-23, an amount of 4 crores 70 lakhs has been approved for the construction of 94 ghotuls for the cultural protection and promotion of local tribes in Narayanpur district, which will help in the conservation and promotion of tribal culture and the coming generations will also be able to pass on their culture.

In the cultural program, 7 groups of specially protected tribes gave their presentation, in which the Pahari Korwa of the Jashpur division presented the traditional dance of Agnai Naache, which is performed in the month of Pus on the occasion of paddy harvesting. Gaur dance by Abujhmadia Dal, which is performed at Hareli to thank nature. Kamar dance by the artists of Gariaband district, which is performed on Nawakhai.

Peda dance by the artists of Raigad district (World Tribal Day), which is performed on the occasion of Navakhai. Karma Baiga dance from the Mungeli district, which is performed for twelve months. The presentation was given by the Surguja district Karma dance which is performed on the occasion of the Karma festival. At the end of the program, Minister Dr. Tekam honored all the artists by presenting mementos and citations.
