NIT Raipur Developed AI Based Automatic Blood Testing Device

Both patients & medical staff struggle a lot due to the non-availability of veins during blood tests. Repeated needling is immensely painful for the patient. Because of this issue, the researcher at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur has prepared an automatic blood testing device, which finds a vein in the hand or any part of the body, and automatically extracts blood according to the need.

Types of equipment such as transmitters, microcontrollers, receivers, sonar & radar are used in this automatic blood testing device, which is based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. As soon as the device is injected into a body part, the transmitter starts to emit rays. These rays find the veins containing a good amount of blood & transfer its detail to the receiver. After this, the device transmits a signal through a red light to inform the accurate location of the vein and calculates how much blood can be extracted from it. Soon with the help of the stepper motor installed in the device, the needle automatically reaches the right place, pricks the vein, and takes out blood as needed. This whole process requires about 45 seconds to complete. After that, the completion of the process is informed through a yellow light signal on the device.

Sumit Kumar Rai, a researcher in the Department of Biomedical Engineering shared that this automatic blood testing device has a height of eight centimeters. It is designed in such a way that it can be handled easily. This device can be adjusted according to the need for the needle prick & blood draw. It is seen that when two veins are connected in the body, the device will extract as much blood as is needed from a single vein.
