The most convenient way to reach the Raipur Airport is the road connecting Telibandha Chowk to Swami Vivekanand Airport. For many years, the road was known as VIP Road, but now its name has been changed to Rajiv Gandhi Marg.

Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) Mayor-in-Council (MiC) gave a nod to rename the 10 km long straight road after the name of Past Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. RMC officials informed that RMC Zone 10 commissioner Dinesh Koshariya pitched a proposal to change the name of VIP road, in the MiC meeting. Thus MiC members decided to name the road as ‘Rajiv Gandhi Marg’. Zone Commissioner said that one of the busiest & oldest roads in Raipur, VIP Road doesn’t have any official name. People traveling to the airport on this road started calling it VIP Road. And gradually it became famous among citizens as a VIP road. During the MiC meeting, when a proposal was put on the table by RMC Zone 10 commissioner, all members were present during the meeting along with Mayor Aijaz Dhebar and decided to change the name of the road. But the name of the road will only be official after RMC approval on the recommendation of MiC.

With the thought that the road connecting telibandha chowk to the airport is not only for the VIPs, thus Raipur Mayor proposed the name of the road after erstwhile Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In this regard, corporator Sandhya Thakur had also written a letter.
