Digital Planetarium: A New Gateway to the Universe in Chhattisgarh

For the first time in Chhattisgarh, a digital planetarium will be constructed, bringing the wonders of the universe to the people of Bastar. With an approved budget of Rs 7.95 crore, this ambitious project aims to ignite a passion for science and astronomy among children and youth.

A Groundbreaking Initiative

The digital planetarium will be located in Karli, near Dantewada, and will be built by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. This initiative falls under the Science Culture Promotion Scheme 2021, designed to foster scientific awareness and educational development. The ministry’s team, including District CEO Kumar Biswaranjan and PPIA Fellow Divya, recently inspected the site and discussed the project’s operational strategy and construction quality.

Objectives and Vision

The primary objective of this planetarium is to enhance interest and awareness in science and astronomy. It will cater to various educational and recreational needs, providing audio-visual experiences that promote scientific and cultural development. NCSM’s Role

The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous scientific institution under the Ministry of Culture, is overseeing the project. Registered under the West Bengal Society Registration Act in 1961, NCSM is responsible for implementing this innovative project. Deputy Director General Samarendra Kumar and Civil Consultant GK Mahapatra recently visited Dantewada to assess the construction sites.
