A step to empower rural communities and boosts self-sufficiency

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel recently released a staggering amount of Rs 5.32 crore under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, benefiting cattle rearers, women groups, and Gothan committees in Chhattisgarh. The virtual event took place at the Chief Minister’s official residence in the State Capital, and the funds included payment of Rs 2.91 crore for the purchase of 1.45 lakh quintals of cow dung, Rs 1.43 crore as dividends to Gothan committees, and Rs 98 lakh to women self-help groups.

Chief Minister Baghel highlighted the remarkable progress of the Godhan Nyay Yojana, with special emphasis on the growing number of self-reliant Gothans (villages with cow shelters). He emphasized that the ultimate goal of the plan is to make villages financially self-sufficient, and the self-reliant Gothans have already paid Rs 1.67 crore to cow dung vendors, in addition to the department’s payment of Rs 1.24 crore.

Furthermore, the State Government has taken additional steps to support rural communities, including offering Rs 750 per month to the presidents of self-reliant Gothan committees and Rs 500 per month to the members as incentives. This move aims to encourage Gothan committees to become self-sustaining, contributing to the economic empowerment of rural areas.

In addition to the Godhan Nyay Yojana, the Chhattisgarh Government has also expanded the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Bhoomihin Krishi Mazdoor Nyay Yojana, which will now benefit landless agricultural laborers in Scheduled Area Nagar Panchayats and Municipalities. The Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts such as the socio-economic survey in villages, which will help identify new beneficiaries for various schemes including housing, gas cylinders, and toilets.

Furthermore, the government has started accepting applications for unemployment benefits from educated unemployed youth, with over 6,000 applications granted on the first day itself. The Chief Minister congratulated all the beneficiaries, including farmers, cow-dung vendors, cattle rearers, Gothan committees, and self-help groups, for their achievements under the Godhan Nyay Yojana.

The event was attended by various dignitaries including Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, Industries Minister Kawasi Lakhma, and other government officials. The Chief Minister expressed his commitment to the welfare and empowerment of rural communities in Chhattisgarh, through innovative and inclusive initiatives like the Godhan Nyay Yojana, which is driving positive change in the lives of the people.
