More than 200 bird species found in Kanger Valley Park

More than 200 bird species were detected in the Bird Survey 2022 in Kanger Valley National Park located in the Jagdalpur area in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. Over 70 bird lovers from 11 states participated in the survey which was conducted from November 25 to 27, 2022.

Participants were divided into different groups to survey birds in different parts of the park, such as woodland, wetland, riparian forest, and scrubland. During this, more than 50 trails (trails) of the densest forest in the country were covered. Nine species of owls including spot-bellied eagles were detected during the survey. Apart from this, 10 types of predatory birds and 11 types of woodpeckers were found.

 

Many rare species of birds found

According to bird experts, a favorable environment has been found for the habitat of birds in Bastar. For this reason, many rare species of birds were seen here. In many rarest birds were found including White Chest Kilkila, Kaudiyala Kilkila, and Gajpav which can be seen only in Bastar.

Bird watching roadmap will be made for tourists

After the bird survey in Kangerghati, the management is preparing to make a bird-watching roadmap for the tourists arriving here, due to which bird lovers will be able to see the birds found in the Western Ghats and Eastern Himalayas of India. Apart from this, birds from European countries and Central Asian countries reaching here will also be easy to see. Kanger Valley National Park Management started this initiative to explore the possibility of bird watching in Bastar and its positive results have come to the fore so far. The residence of migratory birds on a large scale in Bastar has been confirmed in the past. This will get further strength from the present survey.

Bird’s favorite spot

According to bird expert Hakimuddin Saifi, the Kanger Valley of Bastar is a favorite destination for birds from the northeast to Kerala in the south to the Konkan region. Here, in almost all the places, the birds of these places remain unknown. Especially Malabari Trogon, Kalsiri Yellow Bulbul, Pila Ram Gangra, Kala Baja, and Jordan Baja including small parrots have been found in abundance.

Kangerghati’s unique world of birds

Venus Joshi from Gujarat, Mittal Gala from Bangalore, Ashok Agarwal from Raipur, and Indrajit Singh from Neemuch, who were part of the survey team, told that Bastar is a unique world of birds of South Ghats and Eastern India. Birds of hundreds of species are being found here in abundance.

Kangerghati Director Dhammasheel Ganveer said, he survey will help in making a roadmap and program for eco-tourism in Bastar. In the coming time, tourists will get new opportunities for bird watching.

The confluence of Bastar North, South, and East

Laxmikant Negi, a bird expert from Bhusaval Maharashtra, told that the Kanger valley is the confluence of the south and the east. Apart from Gor Besra, it is mostly the abode of birds found in Himachal and South. Kanger Valley is the place of confluence for these birds.
