The Culture Department of Municipal Corporation has started a pilot project with a vision to make women self-employed and self-dependent. Under this, free millets cooking classes are being provided to the participants, so that women can become financially empowered by supplying millets sitting at home.
Recently, Chhattisgarh Government has decided to open a millets cafe in the state to promote the millets crop. In this series, the first millets cafe in Raipur has opened at ‘Indira Gandhi Agricultural University’, where products of millets are being made and sold on public demand. The people coming to the cafe are also liking the taste of millet. Farm manager of ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendra’, Kamla Mishra said that Millet Mission is being run in 14 districts of the state. Millet products are easier to grow than other crops. Keeping in view the nutritional value and benefits of millet, efforts are being made by the governments to convey its importance to the people again. Internationally, the year 2023 is being celebrated as International Millet Year. Millets are also considered a superfood because they contain a relatively high amount of nutrients. The biggest millets processing plant has also been set up at Nathia-Navagaon in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, which is Asia’s biggest millets processing unit.
Chhattisgarh has become a hub in millet production. After getting the government incentive, its production has seen an increase of up to 1 lakh 65 thousand hectares. Chhattisgarh has announced the first minimum support price for millets in the country. After which 55 thousand quintal millets have been procured in the first year itself.
