Ambulance Launched For Injured Stray Dogs in Raipur

To assure the safety of stray dogs who need quick treatment, the Dog ambulance service was launched by the People for Animals Society, inaugurated by the Raipur collector Dr. Sarveshwar N Bhure on 27th April 2023. Thus Raipur gets its first customized ambulance for injured stray dogs to deliver timely rescue & treatment. The motive behind launching the dog ambulance was to pull down the rising cases of suffering injured stray dogs in the city.

The modified ambulance consists of an oxygen cylinder, first aid kits, dog catcher equipment, and GPS trackers, and also has a professionally trained veterinary assistant to handle the injured stray dogs. As there always remains a risk of spreading infection through stray dogs, this step would be a great move for the safety of stray dogs, surrounding animals, and humans as well.

In Raipur, around 30-35 cases of ailing street dogs are reported but very few of them get rescued. Also, dozens of suspected rabies dogs were also a matter of concern, because no such ambulance service for stray dogs was available before. As of now, this ambulance is working quite well for the welfare of stray dogs.

“The dog ambulance will be a boon for the suffering stray dogs waiting for help. Only one center is available for ailing dogs at Chandkhuri shelter covering Raipur & adjoining rural areas. Over 180 stray dogs are admitted now, who were reported with illness, and injuries. These animals report a high prevalence of testicle cancer and a separate ICU unit has been created for treatment. So far we have rescued over 8500 stray dogs from Raipur and nearby villages during the last 8 years,” said Kasturi Ballal, secretary of People for Animals Society Raipur.
